Battle of the Bands has been scheduled to run on April 13 and early indications suggest the event could become an annual fixture in the eastern Riverina.
Greater Hume Youth Advisory Committee development trainee Emily Jones said two bands had been confirmed and more would be added to the program soon.
She said the aim was to attract people to the region and also provide an entertaining event that was a draw card for visitors from Wagga and Albury.
Chelsea Knight is an artist from Albury and has performed at Henty Machinery Field Days and throughout the region. She has already flagged her intent to play at the Henty event.
Another band known as The Quick and the Dead which plays rock music through to folk renditions will also feature on the program. Miss Jones said the event would be held at the Riverlife Church and members of the youth group were helping out with the organisation.
“This is a very exciting event to be bringing to Henty,” she said.
Miss Jones said the aim was to attract people aged 16 to 25 into the town and to really showcase what Henty had to offer. Diversity was a key when it came to attracting artists too. “We have put flyers out in Albury and Wagga and we are calling on artists. we want to make it as big as possible,” she said.
With plenty of support for the inaugural event Miss Jones said it was likely Battle of the Bands could become an annual fixture for Henty.
“Henty is an agricultural and sporting town but it is good to get the performing arts here too … now we have a place to showcase the arts,” she said.
The first band is set to start playing at around 6.30pm.
