Stud principal Mark Yates said there was a clearance of 182 rams and a notable buyer was RC Worner & Co of Wombat who purchase an outstanding lineup of sires.
The average for the Poll Dorset’s was $1380. The White Suffolk rams topped at $1700 with local buyers AJ & CO Mott being successful bidders. The White Suffolks made an average of $1260.
Mr Yates said the prices were a reflection of recent improvements which had been made within the stud.
He said the Australian Sheep Breeding Value (ASBV) indexes helped to provide an indication of genetic improvements.
He said the introduction of a new sire plus recent high prices within the prime lamb industry were also factors.
