A NSW Ambulance spokesman said emergency services responded at 3.10pm on Monday to reports of a car colliding with the rear of a truck.
He said the man suffered suspected femur injuries.
Witnesses have described black smoke as the car burst into flames.
The northbound lane of the Hume Highway was closed due to the crash near Woomargama Way.
Both northbound lanes of the Hume Highway were closed for about an hour.
Diversions were in place on the highway with officials asking drivers to allow extra time and take the Olympic Highway through Culcairn, then the Culcairn-Holbrook Road.
After an hour, one lane reopened but the clean up continued.
