The road, which is regularly closed due to much-needed maintenance, is also a useful thoroughfare for people who live at The Rock, Uranquinty and Yerong Creek.
In the lead up to the Federal Election Dunns Road, with its characteristic patchwork of gravel and sealed sections, made headlines and there was talk about upgrading it.
This road has been open for more than 30 years and is the most direct route to schools at Lake Albert, Jubilee Park, Gregadoo Tip, Forrest Hill and the Sturt Highway.

Unfortunately this hasn’t come to fruition and the issue has been handballed back and forth between various levels of government.
Now residents at Uranquinty and The Rock are putting their voice behind the issue. There are petitions to sign at businesses in both towns.
The petition reads: The Uranquinty Progress Association and the hundreds of motorists who use this road on a regular basis, urge Wagga Wagga City Council not to close this important link road.
This road has been open for more than 30 years and is the most direct route to schools at Lake Albert, Jubilee Park, Gregadoo Tip, Forrest Hill and the Sturt Highway to the east from Uranquinty, The Rock, Yerong Creek and all towns to the west.
It is also the most direct route for the many residents who live on the southern side of the city, including Lake Albert and Forrest Hill, who commute to work in towns, or on farms, to the south west of Wagga Wagga.
The aim was to gather 500 petitions to submit to Wagga City Council. At the time of writing 429 people had signed the online petition at change.org and this didn’t account for the physical signatures gathered on paper at The Rock and Uranquinty.
- Have your say. Is Dunn’s Road an important thoroughfare for people who live in the Eastern Riverina?
