Lockhart Shire Council and The Rock Progress Association successfully applied for 50/50 funding with the Federal Government through the Stronger Communities Programme to install the equipment along the new walking track between the town and The Rock Hill.
Lockhart Shire Council tourism and economic development officer Jennifer Connor said the outdoor gym, would feature seven strategically placed fitness stations.
“The stations will be installed on the popular walking track between The Rock and The Rock Hill Nature Reserve to encourage active lifestyles within the community,” she said.
“The outdoor fitness equipment will be free to use and will feature a mix of equipment to develop cardio fitness, strength and mobility.”
She said each item was designed to be easily accessible and cater to users across a broad range of fitness levels and ages.
“The equipment will be suitable for the novice and the conditioned athlete, and will contain instruction signs and exercise equipment,” she said.
Mrs Connor said the outdoor gym would provide free exercise and physical activity opportunities to community members, and also provide opportunities for the 30,000 people who visit The Rock Hill each year.
