AFL Riverina announced the grand final will be held on September 15 with the Riverina League’s decider on September 22.
It comes despite the Farrer League requesting a different date after this year’s grand final gate was affected by having the two big events in Wagga on the same day.
Farrer League president David Oehm confirmed they didn’t want the September 15 date.
“We would have preferred to avoid the clash with Aggies races,” Oehm said.
“But the AFL made the decision.”
The Farrer League voted for Option 2, which would have seen a potential clash of grand finals with Group Nine, but be on a different weekend to one of the most popular days at the Murrumbidgee Turf Club.
Oehm thought that would have been a better fit.
However the AFL Riverina board ratified a different option, Option 1.
They said the clash was discussed but decided to give priority to the junior competitions.
The Riverina League decided to continue with their Saturday grand final date.
It will be a day before the Ovens and Murray grand final which was moved back to the Sunday this year.
The draws for both competitions are set to be released later in the month but the Farrer League will start on April 14 and the Riverina League on April 21.
Both have a representative bye on May 19.
