Hume Football League report

A CLASH of the Hume Football League grand final and the Ovens and Murray Football League has been avoided after both were originally set for same day.

In a mix-up, which could have cost the competitions thousands of dollars at the gate, the leagues have fixtured their premiership deciders for Saturday, September 22.

While the Hume league is yet to release its draw, directors voted on the date earlier this month and the move was ratified at a board meeting on Wednesday.

The Ovens and Murray after having moved its 2017 grand final to a Saturday for the first time in decades will now revert to Sunday, September 23.

For many years each of the four leagues around the north east Victoria and southern NSW held their respective grand finals in sequence over four weeks.

Tallangatta FL who have traditionally held it grand final the week before Hume FL, moved its grand final forward a week.

The league will start the week after Easter on April 7 and the moving of the grand final date revolved around club feedback seeking a mid-season bye.

All local leagues will finish before the 2018 AFL grand final which will be held on September 29, the week after Hume (Saturday) and O and M (Sunday).

Last season’s runners up Jindera have been very active in recruiting along with Culcairn who finished third last season.
