GETTING agriculture into the classroom is one of the aims at The Rock Central School.

Programs overseen by teacher Scott Callaghan help to promote an interest in primary industries with students in both primary and secondary school.

“We are trying to get students thinking about their own food security and teaching them how to grow their own vegetables,” Mr Callaghan said. “We have started (building) permanent vegetable gardens for the whole school … each primary class has their own garden and grows their own vegetables,” he said.

A recent project involved each class growing a different colour of potted petunias. These petunias were later sold at The Rock Food Works. And making the school farm open during lunch time was also a priority.
