With the 2016 sporting season almost complete it was again a familiar face who took out the Hume FL premiership.
Brock Burrum Saints after years and decades spent at the bottom of the ladder continued its resurgence as a merged club.
The Saints made it three wins in the last four years when they proved far too accomplished for the Jindera Bulldogs at Walbundrie.
The Bulldogs who had won its three elimination finals leading into the grand final had no answer to the depth and class of Brock Burrum.
Kylin Morey with six goals was named the Des Kennedy Medallist for best on ground, just ahead of speedster Nick Sedgwick and Dean Murphy.
Osborne who dominated the seconds all season ran out easy 66 point winners over Jindera with experienced first grader Sam Rutland best on ground.
Henty won a thrilling under 17’s grand final against Howlong by a point, while Holbrook proved too good for Osborne in the under 14’s.
CDHBU made history when it defeated Brock Burrum in the Hume netball grand final. It was the combines first ever premiership since joining the league in 2008.

The Azzi Medal for the leagues best and fairest was won for the second time by Howlong ruckman Peter Hancock two votes ahead of Jess Johnstone from Murray Magpies.
Hancock was a previous winner in 2013 and was a key player in Howlong making it into the first week of finals.
Andrew Emery from Lockhart was named the Hume FL Rising Star Award. The award is for outstanding under 21 players in the league.
Bec O’Connell the Billabong Crows coach won the Hume Netball A Grade best and fairest. O’Connell was a previous winner of the O and M Wilson Medal when at Corowa Rutherglen.
The Hume FL had won of its best ever results in interleague football, when they upset the powerful Riverina FL at Robertson Oval in Wagga.
Led by Coach Josh Walker (Jindera) the Hume league held out the home side in a tense finish to win by seven points with Duncan McMaster best on ground.
Hume also had a clean sweep in the netball when they outpointed Riverina in A grade and under 17’s. Sally Hunter was best in A grade.
The second Hall of Fame night was held at the Commercial Club in Albury with five new inductees joining the five from last year’s inaugural event. The five new inductees were Harry Gardiner and Trevor Smith from Culcairn, Ian Kreutzberger from Rand, Col Black Holbrook and legendary Hume coach Bill Barton.
The 2017 season will also see the adoption of the Player Points System currently being used in the O and M FL and across regional Victoria and ACT/NSW. Hume clubs will be allocated 38 points per club, with all players being allocated at least one point pending their history and previous playing career.
The Hume FL was also well represented in the recent AFL draft with Henty’s Harrison MacCreadie being drafted to Carlton for the 2017 season.
