Jindera residents are reluctant to have street names changed despite difficulty faced by emergency services.
Multiple split streets in Jindera can see ambulances or firefighters drive to the wrong end of the street in a bid to find a house number.
These streets include Jindera Street, Wood Street, Fallon Street, Creek Street and Gibson Street.
During community consultation, residents were reluctant to have street names changed due to the work involved with changing addresses.
Residents suggested that numbers be painted on kerbs, however, many houses in Jindera do not have kerbing.
However, Jindera Community Forumn secretraty Kathy Anderson feels something should be done.
“People will jump up and down if street names have to be changed but it has been a problem,” she said.
“It does need to be addressed, I just don’t know the best way.”
Despite the reluctance during the meeting the survey results told a different story.
The survey put out by Greater Hume Shire Council saw many of the results split evenly.
On renaming and renumbering some streets which require it there were 20 votes for and 20 against the idea.
When asked if they should do nothing there were 18 votes for and 19 against.
All results from the survey will be sorted by council before they go back to the community for more feedback on the issue.
