LOCKHART put a disappointing start to the season behind it to edge out Holbrook by two points at Holbrook on Saturday.
After leading by 20 points at the final change, the Demons withstood a late comeback to open their winning account.
Holbrook hit the front with five minutes remaining before young Demon Oscar Smyth kicked the match-winner on the run.
Coach Shane Lenon described the win as a relief.
“It’s good to get the winning feeling back,” Lenon said.
“Although we hadn’t won, the boys have been putting in the effort and it’s good to get some reward.
“It will give everyone a bit of confidence.”
Defender Jake Phillips was strong for the Demons while Wylie and Jordan Harrington and Seb Webb also turned in strong performances.
The young Brookers played well in patches with Josh Jones excellent in the midfield and Jacob Curran and Tyson Neander lending support.
