The small but close-knit farming community of Pleasant Hills has kept its local school operating for almost 125 years.
Most of the students are third or fourth generation with their parents taking over farming operations in the area.
“Farmers hand down the properties to their sons or in my case, their daughter,” Suzanne Cheney said.
Mrs Cheney’s children are the fourth generation of her family to attend the small school.
Pleasant Hills Public School will celebrate 125 years on October 14 this year from 11am to 3pm.
A committee has been formed to promote the reunion with all former students invited to the celebrations.
The Pleasant Hills community pub will also host Fanny Lumsden in the evening as part of the event.
“The school and the pub are what keeps it going,” Mrs Cheney said.
