The agronomy plots at the Henty Machinery Field Days have been on the farmer’s must-see list for decades, and are now open to expressions of interest.
The plots have been managed for many years by the NSW Department of Primary Industries and since 2014 by Riverina and Murray Local Land Services.
Displays have included the latest varieties of pulses, cereals, oilseeds, legumes, pasture and fertiliser trials.
Expressions of interest are now open to seed companies, resellers or distributors to showcase the latest crop or pasture varieties or fertiliser treatments in plots of up to 0.2ha each.
HMFD chief executive officer Belinda Anderson said Local Land Services had withdrawn their involvement to concentrate on the core business of extension services.
“Local Land Services will have a comprehensive display on the western half of the original plots area,” Mrs Anderson said.
“HMFD is offering interested parties the opportunity to manage and develop one of five areas on the eastern half of the original agronomy plots area.
“These demonstration plots must be conducive to the general agronomy and agricultural practices of the region.
“The collection of yield data is not required and is at the discretion of the successful parties.’’
All programs, with the exception of pasture, must be based on rotations to minimise the disease risk.
There are five plots available of 0.2ha or 20 metres wide and up to 100 metres long.
To be held on September 20-22, the field days are set to draw more than 800 exhibitors on 1200 sites across the 105ha permanent site.
