Over 145 hectares of a private pine plantation were burnt. Emergency crews in attendance included more than 80 fire fighters, three helicopters and 25 tankers.
Crews were brought in from local Rural Fire Service (RFS) brigades and from Tumbarumba and Wagga Wagga.
NSW Parks and Wildlife and Forestry crews also helped contain the blaze.
The fire started on Jingellic Road shortly before 2pm, quickly moving north into forest in the area and to the pine forest south of Jingellic Road.
The fire fighters battled the blaze in searing 40-degree heat for over six hours before bringing it under control.
NSW RFS Southern Border Team community safety officer Julie Bartlett said the service was thankful that there was very little wind on the day.
“If it had been a windy day it would’ve been so hard to contain the fire and stop it from spreading quickly” she said.
“Even then, the hot conditions made the fire ignite faster so if those two conditions had combined we’d have been in for a much tougher job.”
Fire crews remained at the scene overnight as active fires continued to burn within the control zone and back burning operations continued into Thursday.
