Past and present students gathered in the eastern Riverina township to celebrate 125 years of the Henty Public School.
Jenny Zweck was on the organising committee and she concluded that the event overall was a huge success and had attracted a lot of interest. She said on the Friday 129 people including current and former students met at the school. This was followed up on Friday evening with 166 people attending the dinner celebrations and another 60 or so participated in a breakfast on the Saturday morning.
“These celebrations provided many students and ex-students and staff (past and present) and community members with the opportunity to meet and reflect upon the past years of their association with Henty Public School,” Mrs Zweck said.
The classrooms were opened up and photographs featuring images from years gone by certainly provided a talking point. There were also displays of gala costumes, excursion photos, school uniforms and sports uniforms.
“We had memorabilia from as far back as the 1950s,” she said.
Henty Public School administration manager Tania Wettern said the celebrations were “just amazing” and everything they had hoped for. “There was such a positive vibe and people enjoyed reminiscing,” she said.
Mrs Wettern said the hard work that had gone into making the displays, and gathering old photos, by the committee had earned so much interest.
