Brad Stewart from the Rural Fire Service said a helicopter was needed to fight a fire off Westbrook Road at Oberne Creek, which came with two kilometres of a soft pine plantation.

“We had to engage a helicopter, we had 12 trucks and 26 volunteers there on Saturday night and Sunday,” he said.

“Whilst the fire was in fairly rugged terrain it posed no threat to life.

“It’s a job well done to the volunteers who got on top of it and contained it early.”

Mr Stewart said dry and warm weather meant the bush fire danger period may be brought forward from November 1.

“Given the fires we’ve seen this week it may go early,” Mr Stewart said.

“The take home message it never leave a fire unattended, make sure campfires are completely extinguished and if you’re lighting a fire, you must notify the RFS and your neighbours – failure to do so can result in penalties.”
