George Alexander, 19, seriously injured his knee during the club’s celebrations on Sunday.

He was driving on the Osborne-Yerong Creek Road about 8.10am when the vehicle flipped, damaging his knee.

Alexander had played a key role in the club’s Hume Football League flag win at Walbundrie only hours earlier.

The teenager was flown to Canberra Hospital, where he remains.

Osborne president Jason Gooden said his teammates had travelled to the hospital to visit Alexander on Wednesday.

“The club is definitely supporting him,” Gooden said.

“We’re thinking of George and his family.

“He’s doing really well.

“He’s expected to make a full recovery but it’s a slow process.”

Others inside the vehicle were not seriously injured.

Gooden said Alexander had undergone an operation on Monday.

“It’s been a very successful year,” he said.

“This is definitely a damper on it, but it’s very lucky at the same time.

“It could have been a lot worse.”

The president said it was too early to tell if the young centre-half-forward would play next season.

“We’re getting behind George and the family,” he said.

“We’re working through the process of building on our culture of making good decisions and looking after one another.

“All of us can make bad decisions but it’s about looking after one another.”

Alexander was a key player in the club’s win at the weekend.

He kicked the last goal of the game in the side’s 25-point win over Jindera on Saturday.

The club will hold its presentation night on Friday with Alexander expected to poll strongly.

He has kicked 27 goals for the side this season in 19 games, following 25 goals in 2016. 

Alexander joined the club as a junior.
