Planning for the project and the purchase of a block of land in Allan Street had been funded in previous budgets.

Fire and Rescue NSW Inspector Stewart Alexander said the new building would feature a two-engine bay, a training space which will be used by both the Henty and visiting brigades, and separate facilities for men and women.

He said the design was part of a overall push to welcome firefighters of both sexes.

“It’s right in the middle of town,” Inspector Alexander said.

“It will be a hell of a step up from the current station.”

Albury MLA Greg Aplin said the new station was expected to be completed next year.

“Our firefighters are there to protect us 24-7 and they deserve the best facilities we can offer them,” he said.

“This continued investment in Henty’s new fire station highlights this government’s unwavering commitment to community safety.

“The new station will be designed to ensure our firefighters are fit and ready to do their job effectively.”

Emergency Services Minister Troy Grant said the funding helped to prioritise the people who protected communities during emergencies.

“Our first responders do extraordinary work, often under enormous pressure and a new fire station will give firefighters in Henty the facilities they need to continue their vital work for generations to come,” he said.
