A crash on Monday prompted Councillor Terry Weston to raise the issue on Wednesday, asking council to look into the ‘dangerous condition’ of the road.
“It’s now the seventh accident that’s occurred, plus three fatalities within that region,” he said.
“I think some of the reasons are the bends that are not signed and the 100km/h speed limit, which is excessive.
“That 100km/h starts on the west side of Morven and within 100 metres of a hard right hand bend.
“We’re encouraging people to travel at 100km/h an hour and rip into a hard bend, without a sign on it.
“That limit is still too fast and I’d like to see that looked into in a serous manner, considering the number of accidents that have happened.”
NSW Centre for Road Safety statistics show between 2011 and 2015, 17 crashes occurred on the stretch of road – 10 resulted in moderate and serious injuries and two involved fatalities.
In 2014, 60-year-old Wagga man Christopher Smith was killed in a three-vehicle accident involving a truck.
Cr Weston said there was a long history of accidents in the area, and a young woman was lucky to escape injury on Monday when her Nissan came off the road and rolled several times.
“The road’s worse than its ever been – wet weather has meant the road has deteriorated,” he said.
“The road needs improving and I think it’s in Council’s pipeline to do it.
“In time, there’s going to be improvements made, and I’d to see it happen sooner rather than later.”
