LETICIA O’Brien’s K 1-2 students at St Paul’s Primary School’s science unit on forces, has come to its conclusion when they built pirate ships and tested how well they would hold treasure and gems and gold. After an initial trial, they discovered that the ships they built did not float so, after some minor alterations, the real experiment started with some amazing results. Blake Klemke and Aaron Lieske’s larger ships were able to store considerable treasure; their ships came in at 25 pieces. Aiden Cunningham, Elanor Sanderson, Robbie Pope and Micah Klemke’s smaller ships carried six pieces of treasure each.
I remember when calculators were introduced to schools, followed much later by PCs and now St Paul’s are taking another leap forward with the introduction of robotics. The school’s P&F has planned to acquire three class kits.
