With shooters Haylee Penny and Sharla Sutcliffe on fire in the circle, the host league led at every change in a performance coach Zanelle Gerecke described as “outstanding”.
“I couldn’t be prouder of the girls,” Gerecke said.
“They all played really well.
“Our defenders did a fantastic job on their tall shooter (Rosie Dye).
“We had a strategic move and it worked really well.
“Isabel Grundy and Jennifer Vine don’t play together on weekends, but they were incredible.
“The shooters shot so well and our movement was great.”
Tallangatta led 8-5 at the first change and gradually increased the margin with Hume struggling to convert its opportunities.
Coach Beck O’Connell ran herself ragged in the centre while Brooke Wilson and captain Sharna Holland also turned in strong performances.
O’Connell said Hume failed to capitalise on its chances.
“It’s pretty disappointing,” O’Connell said.
“We had a lot of ball at our end but we didn’t utilise it and convert when we had possession.
“Tallangatta is a good side and played well together.”
Grundy was named Tallangatta’s best player after holding Dye while Tallangatta’s Karina Cameron provided plenty of drive in the centre.
Tallangatta set itself for a big showing after going down to Ovens and King at Wangaratta last season.
“We were really keen to do well this year,” Gerecke said.
“It was tough as Hume played well and I love Beck O’Connell as a coach.
“She does a great job with interleague netball.”
Tallangatta had four Thurgoona players in its side which Hume believed helped its teamwork.
In the under-17s, Hume defeated Tallangatta 50-40 with shooter Dariah Farrington best-on-court.
Tallangatta took the honours 39-26 in the under-15s.
