AT OUR meeting on March 15 at Burrumbuttock, the residents, with a good roll-up in the public gallery, were pleased to witness that council resolved to support the installation of a much needed and very welcome mobile phone tower to be located close to the Burrumbuttock hall, on private property.

Council also resolved to enter into a lease on a property in Bath Street, Holbrook with NBNCO, for the establishment of a fixed radio (wireless) component of the National Broadband Network. NBN CO will establish a radio network base station facility on the property to enable it to operate a telecommunications service and network.

A LONG-AWAITED upgrade to Sladen Street, Henty will start in July. Council has committed close to $700k to the upgrade which will include footpaths, drainage, gutter, and will be a vast improvement and a great asset to the town and its facilities.
A section of underground drainage, kerb and gutter and associated roadworks in the main street of Walla Walla is nearing completion and is being welcomed by the residents.

THE new swimming pool at Henty has provided some welcome relief during the hot summer months. At Holbrook, construction for a new pool has started and will be ready for the start of the 2017 swimming season. Both pools are a welcome boost to infrastructure in our shire and will be well utilised throughout the summer months. The pools were constructed with council funds and the federal government grants.

COUNCIL has recently applied for funding for the Grubben Road (Williams Crossing) upgrade of the railway crossing, north of Henty. Council has recently supported the Walla Walla community in its endeavours to seek funds for the possible expansion of much needed children’s services in the town. Both grant applications have been submitted seeking funding under the Building Better Regions Fund (Federal government).

BOTH Jindera and Walla Walla residents will be celebrating their town’s sesquicentenary, beginning with Jindera in 2018, followed by Walla Walla in 2019.
Committees are already established and have begun to work on events to celebrate their Lutheran and German heritage, and the long trek which their ancestors made from South Australia almost 150 years ago.
Australia Day 2018 will be hosted by Jindera, and the 150th celebrations will be held on September 29 and 30, and October 1, 2018.
