The second round of matches to start the new year proved a good one for the Lions who have been very much in a rebuilding phase.
The Lions, who have been a powerhouse of the HDCA in the last three decades, have experienced a tough season prior to the gutsy win.
After winning the toss and batting Culcairn lost four early wickets before brothers Rory and Keegan Jenkins rectified the gloomy situation.
Keegan made his top senior score of 52, while younger sibling Rory made a crucial 24 in a match-winning fifth wicket stand.
Shaun Turvey chipped in late in the order with 17 as the homeside were bowled out in 37 overs for 163.
Stephen Marsden with 3-21 and Todd Hannam 2-29 were the most successful visitor’s bowlers, who were missing Steven Jolliffe.
TRYC were cruising to victory at 1-70 before a dramatic collapse swung the tide Culcairn way to have TRYC bowled out for 138.
The visitor’s top order made good starts but none of Hannam (23), Ben Willis (33), Callum Bennett (28) and Brad Jolliffe capitalised.
Cameron Wood claimed 3-14, while Nick Godde and Mitch Godde both took two wickets to lend great support.
Despite the loss TRYC still remain in second place, while Culcairn are almost no chance of playing finals despite the morale boosting win.

OSBORNE wrapped up the minor premiership for the second successive year when they proved too strong for rivals Henty at Osborne.
Henty, who have been in some indifferent form, won the toss and batted but never got any momentum going through out the innings.
Connor Galvin was super impressive with the new ball for Osborne, taking three wickets and along with the run out of Grant Gardiner it proved fatal for Henty.
Father and son combination of Mick and Oscar Glanvill chipped in with two wickets each as Henty were bowled out for 100 in 36 overs.
Nick Murray played a lone hand for Henty with 23, while Chris Manns was the only other batsman to make double figures with 15.
Osborne lost star bat Luke Richardson early to Manns, but this was to be its last amount of joy as Osborne cruised to an easy win.
Galvin made it a great double by making 43 in a very good second wicket stand with Lachie Lane 45 of 62.
Osborne finished at 6-130 against some excellent bowling from Manns 0-11 off eight and Daniel Hore-Smith 1-14 off eight.
