HENTY Public School students, Ashtyn Quee, Angus White, Blake Roulston, Harry Doig and Helena Brown competed in the Orienteering State Championships in Sydney last week. All students over eight years will be participating in the Bernie O’Connor event and training has commenced in earnest. The school is in the thick of rehearsals for its gala night and the students are busily sourcing props and costumes. Last Friday, the premier’s debaters competed in the zone finals against Thurgoona Public School at Billabong High School. School band students will attend the Wagga Eisteddfod on Thursday, September 1.

AUDITIONS have started at St Paul’s school’s production of Shrek. The production is substantial and those talented in creating costumes, props and the like should make themselves known to the school. It will be held at the community centre.

AT LAST Thursday’s Historic Society Meeting Bruce Taylor addressed the gathering. There is quite a lot of activity surrounding the Headlie Taylor Museum. A substantial sculpture is in the process of being funded to recognise the impact Taylor’s header had on world grain production. The committee are recreating, with the assistance of Henty Men’s Shed members, a part of the elevator system of the header on display - the “Nil Desperandum” Box. The box will be travelling around the Murray Region promoting the museum.

BOTH street stalls on Henty’s main street last Friday did well in the sunny conditions. The Cancer Council’s Daffodil stall sold out of daffodils while raising considerable funds and the Garden Club ran out of some items. Plant sales were the best for many a year.
