The Henty Local Health Advisory Committee (LHAC) was awarded a health excellence award by the Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) for mental health forums.
The forums were organised by the committee but in particular, Mick Broughan.
The award was presented to Henty Health Service manager Jeff Bedford who said it was a crucial forum for young people to attend.
“It (mental health) kills the most young men aged between 16 and 25,” he said.
“It is higher than the road toll and there are millions going into that and nothing into mental health.”
The forums were held at Billabong High School in Culcairn with students from Henty, Culcairn, Holbrook, The Rock, Walla Walla and other small towns attending.
Guest speakers touched on issues surrounding mental health and another forum is being planning for this year.
