The Holbrook Progress Committee will be formed to give residents more control over what happens in the town and give the area direction.
There are similar groups in other towns around the Greater Hume Shire which are “quite effective”.
Greater Hume Shire Council mayor Heather Wilton said the committee was a council initiative.
“The groups are a good sounding board for the things we want to introduce in the town or across the shire,” Cr Wilton said.
“We are looking for interested people who would like to have input into things that happen around town.”
The group acts as an advisory board linking residents to the council on issues ranging from guttering to tourism and development ideas.
Similar groups and committees have been formed in the past but haven’t lasted.
Cr Wilton said the future of this committee was dependent on the members.
“(The committee will) only be as vibrant as the people who are on it,” she said.
“Anyone who loves the town and is interested in the town's future should consider applying.”
Cr Wilton hopes to see a range of people on the committee from business people to families, elderly residents and youth.
Former member of The Rock Progress Association Rob Martin said the groups differ in each town.
“It is hard to get locals who were born and breed in the town to participate,” he said.
“It thrives on participation.”
In the past, The Rock group fixed the gatekeepers park next to railway with the support of council.
Mr Martin said the group can drive projects in the community “without a doubt”.
Applications for the Holbrook Progress Committee close on July 31. To apply go to the Holbrook council office or download the form from http://holbrook.nsw.au/
