Sydneysiders have woken to their coldest morning yet this year, with temperatures dropping to five degrees in the city and below-zero in the western suburbs.
At 5am on Sunday the mercury hovered at - 0.8 degrees in Richmond, the coldest area in the Sydney basin on par with Camden, which recorded the same temperature at 6.30am.
In the early hours of the morning, the temperature in Campbelltown dropped just below zero while in Badgerys Creek, it was -0.1 degrees at 6.30am.
In the city it was just below 6 degrees by 5am but the wind chill meant it felt more like -1 degrees, Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Mohammed Nabi said.
"A lot of the temperatures are still going down," Mr Nabi said on Sunday morning.
"So far this is the coldest morning for Sydney this year."
Sunday morning was chillier than Saturday, when temperatures hovered at 7.4 degrees in the CBD but felt like one degree with westerly winds.
The mercury was forecast to fall to -1 degrees in Richmond, 4 degrees in Terrey Hills, -1 degrees in Camden and 8 degrees in Bondi. In the Blue Mountains, Katoomba residents can expect to wake to a low of -3 degrees.
The rest of Sunday is expected to bring a maximum of 16 degrees in Sydney while on Monday the mercury is forecasted to drop again to a maximum of 14 degrees with a shower or two.
Mr Nabi said the temperatures were not unusual for June, which had an average minimum temperature of nine degrees.
"In June it's not unusual to get a cold front come through and get a nasty cold snap," Mr Nabi said.
This weekend's cold front brought about 3cm of snow to residents of Blackheath, Leura, Mount Victoria, Yetholme and Katoomba with cold, blustery winds carrying the snowfall as far west as Bathurst and Orange.
The BOM forecasts temperatures in Sydney won't reach the twenties for the rest of the week. Lows in the city are forecast to peak at 9 degrees, while tops are expected to reach only 19 degrees on Wednesday.
Weatherzone senior meteorologist Jacob Cronje said the cold snap resulted from a high pressure system moving in behind a cold front from the south-west.
With added moisture, fog, frost and possible freezing fog may be a concern in the Canberra region, he said.
The "very repeatable" pattern is likely to intermittently affect the south-east over the next fortnight, Mr Cronje said.
