Jugiong’s Polimeni family has made the heartbreaking decision to switch off the life support of 15-year-old Lui Polimeni.

Lui reportedly suffered massive stroke symptoms, collapsing on the football field while playing for his beloved Gundagai Tigers on Sunday. 

He was airlifted to Canberra Hospital, where he has been in an induced coma since, with his family by his side. 

Lui will be remembered as a talented sportsperson, a great mate and a beloved son and brother.

He was a popular student at Murrumburrah Public School, where today students are in mourning. 

Counselling will be offered to students. 

On the Gundagai Tigers’ Facebook page, his family asked the following be stated.

“After deep consideration, Lui's life support system will be switched off today after he suffered massive stroke symptoms. He fought a great battle but was not able to recover,” the club posted, before adding a message from the Polimeni family.

“Lui loved his footy.

“Lui loved the Tigers.

“Lui loved his mates and his team mates.

“Lui gave his best every time he played.”

The club also called for people to respect the Polimeni family’s privacy as they come to terms with the tragedy.

“Our condolences go out to Lui's family,friends and Tigers. Please respect his family's privacy during this most upsetting time.”

Lui is survived by his parents, Jenny and Gino, and brother Joey.
