While the day is usually held at the station, this year they decided to move it to Bicentennial Park to be more visible.

The move resulted in a lot of travellers stopping in with more than 150 people visiting throughout the day.

The Henty station didn’t just show off the most current trucks and equipment but also two antique vehicles.

“The old antique trucks are always popular with the kids,” Henty captain Phillip Takle said.

While the day aims to educate the community about NSW Fire and Rescue it is also focused on staying safe at home.

The organisation is encouraging people to replace smoke alarms which are 10-years-old with new photoelectric ones.

The new alarms are more sensitive and can detect slow smoldering fires before a room is full of smoke.

“We are encouraging people to change smoke alarms and keep themselves well protected,” Mr Takle said.

The Culcairn station also held its open day at the weekend which saw more than 100 people walk through the doors.

“We had a good representation of people come through and show interest in recruitment,” Culcairn captain Barry Fisher said.

The area commander, Ken Murphy, also dropped in to the Culcairn Station.
