Henty Rotary Club organised the plaque’s construction as a tribute to the long-time Rotarian and important community servant.
Mr Davidson joined Henty Rotary in 1960 and was appointed secretary later that year.
In his time with Rotary he served in a number of other roles including as a director and vice-president which he was appointed to in 1965 as well as later becoming president.
He also received the honour of being appointed Sergeant-at Arms in 1962, 1982 and 2004.
Mr Davidson’s wife Bernice said the plaque is a special recognition of her husband’s service to the community.
“I think it is a beautiful tribute to him and his work,” Mrs Davidson said.
Local Rotarian Kevin Fogarty said honouring Mr Davidson was a long-time goal of Henty Rotary Club and is proud to see it come to fruition.
“We felt it was important as Max was a very prominent businessman in the (Henty) community,” Mr Fogarty said.
“He had the respect of everybody in town.”
Mr Davidson moved to Henty in 1952 after working in Yerong Creek and serving in the Second World War in New Guinea.
He started work at a stock and station agency which later came to be known as M.S. Davidson and Co where he worked for 53 years.
Known as a leading community figure, Mr Davidson was a pioneer for several projects in the Henty area.
He played an important role in the formation and running of the Henty Community Bank which was the first in NSW, the Myoora Hostel, the Henty Cricket Club, Henty Community Centre and the Henty-Culcairn Probus Club.
In 2004 he was awarded the Culcairn Shire citizen of the year award as an acknowledgment of his ongoing work in Henty.
Mr Davidson passed away in May 2006 at the Henty hospital.
At the unveiling five speakers told of the effect Mr Davidson had had in the community through various facets of his life - Julie Parker (Uniting Church), Mick Broughan (Business Partner), Bruce Diffey (Cricket Club), Milton Taylor (friend and former Bendigo Bank representative) and Kevin Fogarty (Rotary). The actual unveiling was performed by Allyn Maher, a long time friend who served as Mr Davidson’s secretary at United Protestant Association (UPA) for many years.
