Champion tennis veterans

Life member of the Holbrook Tennis Club, Joy Quick was successful in the Victorian over 65s ladies division 2 teams event of the Australian Tennis Senior Championships teams held at Wodonga last week.

Joy and her team mates Helen Alexander, Bev Just, Wendy Lavington, Glennis Piggott and Maria van der Linden were he winners defeating South Australia in the final on Friday five sets to three.

Maria and Joy had to win the last set to win the match as South Australia had more games and it finished 7/5 in the tie breaker.

Holbrook’s Henry Parker played for the Victorian team in the over 65 years mens event which defeated number one seeds New South Wales.

Members of the Victorian team included Ian Roberts, Keith Lavington, Alan Swingler and Henry Parker.

Competing against all states, the Victorian and New South Wales teams contested the grand final. At four games all, it was a tightly won tussle with victory going to Victoria four games in front.

Henry will have another big week of tennis competing in the singles championships.
