Brocklesby-Burrumbuttock Saints recorded its first win in over two years with a barnstorming finish at Henty to record a badly needed 27 point win amongst high emotion and pure elation.
Several BB Saints committee men believe it is over 25 years since either Burrumbuttock or Brocklesby had won a game at Henty, let alone the newly merged BB Saints.
The Saints, who had shown a victory was not far away with impressive losses over some of the top sides, confirmed that theory by overturning a half time deficit to power home in great fashion.
They were led brilliantly by Theo Herring who has been sensational since crossing over from the Upper Murray league and key forwards Dean Murphy and John O’Connell.
It was a great team effort though and Coach Glen Eddy believes it could well form the impetuous for several more wins, with games against the ex Coreen clubs on the horizon.
To compound a dirty day for the Swampies in form utility Josh Spencer injured a shoulder and looks set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines. Al Edis, Dave Weston and Grant Gardiner (4 goals) tried hard for Henty.
HOLBROOK IMPRESS OVER LOCKHART
Led brilliantly by coach Manny Edmunds Holbrook wore down a very determined first half effort by Lockhart in a rugged and high standard encounter at Holbrook.
Edmunds led from the front with a best field performance to ensure his Holbrook team cemented its place in the top section of the Hume league ladder, winning by 54 points after a very tight first half.
With Holbrook holding a eleven point half time lead and the game evenly poised, it was a brilliant third quarter effort of eight goals that put the game beyond Lockhart.
Noel Coutts and Tom Hickey took complete control up forward with the pair kicking ten goals between them. Ryan Buckle and Willie Nichols also played a part notching five between them.
The Holbrook defence led by Hayden Lanyon, Ben McLellan and Jon Thompson was superb, while man mountain Aaron West continued his stellar form with a brilliant ruck display.
Josh Maniscalco, Tom Burkinshaw and Daniel Mulholland were in everything for the Demons, while Nathan McPherson showed his class despite being curbed in the second half.
The Brookers second half delighted Edmunds and with Ewan Scholz, Mark Ward and Sam Nichols ready to return from injury they are developing into quite a potent force.
Lockhart badly missed tough defender Brett Hewitt along with youngster Tom Alexander who is still shaking off a trouble some knee injury that has restricted him to just one senior match this year.
