Walbundrie came alive this weekend as the Rand Walbundrie Tigers celebrated the Centenary of the Walbundrie Football Club.
A crowd of over 3000 of past players, premiership champions and supporters kicked off the celebrations witnessing all grades victorious over rival team Walla Walla. The two teams played for the Centenary Courage Cup, an updated version of the longstanding Courage Cup.
Vice President and Chairman of the Centenary Celebrations, Dallan McMaster said “the centenary celebrations had been 12 months in the planning along with the design of our centenary jumper taking into consideration jumper designs over the past 100 years”.
All grades wore the special centenary jersey at their match which was auctioned off later at a Gala Dinner.
Mr McMaster added “after the game 380 people went into Albury for the Gala Dinner with forty inductees into the Centenary Hall Of Fame. Barry Gibbons of Walbundrie was also honoured as Stand Out Hero. Dale Weightman and Michael Roach from Premiership Champions Richmond Football Club addressed the crowd”.
“The weekend events exceeded my and the other club members expectations. Words just cannot express how happy and proud I feel. We have a great community here and everyone is on a high”.
