Culcairn has quickly rectified its poor form the previous week, by stepping back into top gear with an emphatic 34 point win over a disappointing Jindera at Jindera.
Led by a superb performance from on ballers Leigh Baker and wily veteran Brent Barber, they put the Bulldogs to the sword and a huge boost to the team’s confidence. Culcairn started well with the breeze and then put together a terrific second term to outscore the Doggies into the breeze and set up another impressive second half performance.
Travis Gardiner and Scot Fagan completely nullified the Garland boys Kade and Brett, with Kade only getting two touches, as they both went goalless. The Lions unveiled former Lockhart ruckman and Border Bandits Basketball star Nick Payne who proved great support to exciting youngster Angus MacDiarmid in the ruck.
Despite their impressive win the Lions are destined to launch premiership aspirations via the elimination series of finals, with both Howlong and BB Saints assured of the top two places.
Culcairn with an easy final round home match against Lockhart will finish third and if the ladder stays the same, which is most likely, they will face old nemesis Osborne in week one of finals.
In a quirky twist of fate Jindera, who are lower than Culcairn and currently in fourth would be quite happy to stay that way and face Murray Magpies in week one.
The Magpies only need to win at home against the improved Coleambally to finish fifth. A final against the Magpies certainly has more appeal than a clash with the defending premiers Osborne.
BB Saints were in a ruthless mood against CDHBU, winning by over twenty four goals and boosting its already massive percentage advantage over its rivals.
Their top liners all fired with Daryn McKimmie, Brett Guest, Luke Schilg, Trent Storey, Paul Glanville and Dean Murphy in ominous touch with finals approaching.
Howlong again won a tight contest to wrap up the minor premiership, with its 12 point win over Osborne. The result gave further evidence that Osborne are a much improved outfit.
The Cats would have to be beaten by RW Tigers this week by approximately 14 goals to miss finals. This match will be at Osborne and would be a huge upset if this scenario eventuated.
Murray Magpies were far from impressive as they stumbled and fumbled their way to a 33 point win at Holbrook, after the Brookers had led for most of the first half.
Wes French and Ryan Jenkins both kicked four goals for the Magpies, while the performance of fifteen year old Jake Rommeril was the highlight for the Magpies, kicking two goals.
Holbrook veteran Martin Semmler was in vintage form and along with Ewan Scholz, Daniel Shaw, Sam Nichols ensured the Magpies were made to work hard for its victory.
Coleambally won a thrilling contest at home to Henty with the Irrigators charging home to win by just one point in a tense final quarter.
The win was their seventh for the season and they will be very keen to finish on a further high, by upsetting the magpies this week. Henty will be at home to Holbrook in its final clash.
Walla have avoided the wooden spoon for the first time in its history by winning its second successive match, beating Billabong Crows by 16 points, with coach Jason Murray kicking eight goals.
