The final round of the Hume league home and away season was completed last Saturday with no changes to the ladder from the previous round.
Howlong rounded off its stellar season thus far with a comprehensive 51 point win over fourth placed Jindera, the Spiders finished on top with a 17/1 win ration. Jindera have stumbled somewhat over the last month and will need to improve quickly if they are to repeat its last two finals campaigns when they made it to the grand final.
RW Tigers finished in a blaze of glory by travelling to Osborne and defeating the finals bound Cats by 8 points. Osborne courtesy of a 13% percentage advantage finished ahead of the Tigers. Both teams were equal on 11 wins. The Tigers will look back with some disappointment in failing to qualify for finals; they did however have a tough draw to negotiate.
BB Saints finished in second place with a huge percentage advantage over all other sides, with its final percentage being a whopping 47% higher than its nearest rival. Are the Saints that far ahead of the rest or was it due to a friendly draw? Time will tell in the next four weeks of what will be a fascinating finals series ahead. The Saints top six to eight players are as good as any other team, if there middle range players can hold up they are a genuine chance to win the flag.
Culcairn had a convincing 95 point win over Lockhart to finish third and set up a blockbuster clash against Osborne in this Saturdays elimination final at Walbundrie. The Demons fell away considerably in the second half of the season, with injuries playing a big toll on it having a stable side week in week out. Chad Willis and Craig Bosley both played seconds last week, while Luke Donan gave his troublesome knee a rest. All three players are a strong chance to play this week against Osborne.
Murray Magpies got a real testing workout for this Sundays final against Jindera, by withstanding a strong finish by Coleambally to win at home by five points. The Magpies despite going in underdogs against Jindera will be quietly confident after having beaten the Bulldogs at Jindera in its most recent clash.
Henty and Holbrook played out a close encounter on a very heavy Henty Showground, with the Swampies prevailing by 15 points after a titanic battle. Both sides have unveiled plenty of home grown talented youngsters, which will hold them in good stead for future years. Henty and Holbrook have used a large content of local players in their sides and if they can recruit well in the off season, they should climb the ladder significantly.
Walla despite its heavy loss to BB Saints managed to avoid the wooden spoon, when near rivals CDHBU went down to the Billabong Crows, to hand CDHBU the spoon.
