Holbrook has successfully recruited a top level coach from the Ovens and Murray League, Jarrod Twitt.
Twitt recently stepped down from coaching the Wodonga Raiders after five seasons. In his ninth season as a player, he is Wodonga’s reigning best and fairest and 2004 premiership player.
“Recruiting Jarrod is a terrific coup for the Holbrook Football Club,” Holbrook Club President Stephen Bunyan said.
Moving from the Canberra Rams early in his football career, Twitt had a pre-season with the Swans before going to Adelaide where he played for Sturt and was recruited by the Adelaide Crows for one year in 1999. Returning to Wagga Wagga, he played in the 2001 premiership side with the Tigers before playing for Wodonga in 2002.
Holbrook’s young line-up suits Twitt down to the ground. While the highlight of his career was winning the 2004 premiership, his coaching achievements involved making three preliminary finals with a young side.
“I really enjoyed coaching the young players and that’s what Holbrook has to offer,” Twitt said.
At Wodonga he had connected well with talent like Jack Ziebell who made it to the AFL (Australian Football League) and others who went on to the VFL (Victorian Football League).
Twitt is excited about his decision to coach Holbrook. After conversations with his father, he had always planned to finish his footy at Holbrook - it was finding the right time.
“I’m playing good footy, my body is standing up to it and I feel I have something to offer Holbrook,” Twitt told the Eastern Riverina Chronicle.
Twitt comes from a high achieving sporting family in Wagga Wagga. His sister Melanie who played hockey for Australia at the Olympic Games has recently retired.
The new coach has strong family connections with Holbrook as his parents Graham and Narelle were raised here and attended Holbrook Central School. The town was home to his paternal and maternal grandparents.
Speaking from his Albury home on Monday Twitt jokingly said, “we will have plenty of baby sitters there.”
He and his wife Kirsty have a young son Hardy, five and a half months and he was referring to his many relatives who live in the Holbrook area - the Muller, Black, and Wornes families.
The couple are looking forward to getting involved in the Holbrook community. Kirsty who works for the Commonwealth Bank and has equestrian and eventing interests, “is looking forward to meeting young families and supporters in Holbrook,” he said.
