JINDERA OUTCLASS
OSBORNE IN REMATCH
Jindera confirmed its status as outright 2010 premiership favourites by outclassing Osborne at Osborne in a sound warning to all other sides, that they are the team to beat this year.
The result reversed the result of last years 2009 Hume league grand final and provided a rare win for the Bulldogs at Osborne; the win was only the third in the last 26 years. In fact it was only terrible inaccuracy in front of goal that kept the result fewer than twenty points, with Jindera only converting thirteen goals from thirty five scoring shots.
Brett Garland led the way up forward with four goals, while his brother Kade could have topped that but for some inaccuracy that saw him kick 2 - 7. Trent Castles was also dangerous with 2 goals.
Paul Tucker did a terrific job on Cats key forward Damien Sly, restricting the big man to two goals. Tom Weldon and Mick Blomley were outstanding for Jindera setting up many forward entries.
Osborne without star forward Brendan McKelvie and life after Graham Hart had little options and it was only the tenacity of Matt Clarke, Djali Bloomfield and Corey Munson that kept them in the contest.
LIONS IMPRESS WITH
WIN OVER TIGERS
Culcairn bounced back from last week’s home loss to Howlong by recording an impressive and workmanlike win over the highly fancied RW Tigers at Rand, winning by 23 points.
Culcairn never looked back after a superb first quarter that kept the Tigers goalless and kick four themselves. The Tigers were competitive after that, but the damage had been done.
A dangerous and potent forward set up led by Bevan Charlton - White (5) and coach Luke Donan (3) goals did the job, with new ruckman Angus McDiamid breaking even providing important team balance.
Shannon Gilson, Sam Schulz, Graeme Fruean and Scott Fagan did plenty of running and scrimmaging around the packs and out pointed the Tigers midfield. Joe Morris played a lone hand up forward for the Tigers kicking seven goals out of a team total of eleven. Lavington recruit and former rand junior Brandon Matthews debuted well and will be an excellent pick up.
The Tigers saved their best for last with a five goal last quarter and will be hoping that momentum continues into next weeks huge match against Osborne at Rand.
HOLBROOK WIN AGAINST CDHBU
Holbrook opened its 2010 account, by easily accounting for CDHBU in its initial Hume league visit to Holbrook by 51 points in a low scoring and scrappy affair.
The Brookers still minus half a dozen regular players recovered well from last weeks loss at Jindera and with seventeen local players selected they showed promising signs ahead. Aaron Baker was superb in the ruck for Holbrook dominating around the ground, while Ewan Scholz continued his fine start to the season with two goals and a mountain of possessions.
Travis and Russell Jones defended stoutly along with Bradley Walsh, while Andrew Slattery celebrated his eighteenth birthday with his best game in seniors.
CDHBU were gallant in defeat and never stopped trying with Jarrod Hanrahan, Richard Leahy and Jim Wilson their best. The combine were able to only score one goal after quarter time.
BARNES STORMING WIN FOR SPIDERS
Last seasons Hume league leading goal kicker Aaron Barnes kicked nine goals in an electrifying performance to set up Howlongs easy win over Lockhart at home.
Barnes exploded into action in the second term, kicking an amazing six goals for the quarter to turn a quarter time deficit into a thirty two point half time lead.
Howlong went onto record a 42 point victory and keep in tact its unbeaten start to the season. Ben Nicholson, Mick Farrugia, Troy Cooper also starred for the Spiders.
Tom Marlow kicked four goals for Lockhart, who would have been disappointed after such a solid first quarter. Howlong kicked eleven goals to Lockhart two in the second and third stanzas. Josh Pilon, Tom Alexander, Mick Ganderton and Al Haberecht stood out for the Demons who have now lost both matches, albeit against likely top six sides.
HENTY MAKE IT TWO IN A ROW
Henty overcame a very committed and determined first half effort from the Billabong Crows to run home the better and record a 38 point win at Urana and remain undefeated after two rounds.
Ben Taylor and Ben Klemke both kicked three goals apiece for Henty, while Crows mentor Danny Kirchen did likewise at the other end. Daniel Hore-Smith played a blinder for Henty, along with fellow teenagers Jack McCallum and Klemke. Assistant coach Andrew Wilson dominated in the middle racking up almost forty possessions.
Backman Phil Goldsack was outstanding for the Crows and with good support from Mick O’Riordan, Wayne Kirchen and Tim Dalitz they made Henty work hard for its win.
MAGPIES AND SAINTS WIN EASILY
Murray Magpies continued on its merry start to the season with a thumping win over the battling Walla side, the Magpies were ruthless winning by 182 points at Lavington Panthers Oval.
Dan Sharp (9) and Matt Thompson (8) starred up forward. Walla was kept to just one goal and the loss was one of the clubs heaviest in its history.
The BB Saints got going after an even first quarter against Coleambally that saw them only lead by one point, to record a massive 107 point win and get their season off and running.
Darren McKimmie kicked five goals up forward, while Sam Attwater added three in a best afield showing. Tony Pound and Andrew McGowan were the best for Coleambally.
