Hume league officials have decided to switch this week’s preliminary final from Walbundrie to Walla, following several ground inspections across the league.
Walbundrie the usual venue for all finals matches copped a battering over the weekend with the 40 millimeters of rain on Friday night and into Saturday leaving the ground in bad repair.
The eight matches of football played over the weekend certainly took its toll and league officials have quiet sensibly looked at an alternative venue for this Saturday.
In 2008 the league did a similar move following heavy rain on week one of finals. Henty and Culcairn grounds were used on that occasion, proving highly successful ventures.
League President Merv Wegener has assured all clubs and supporters that the 2010 grand final will definitely be played at Walbundrie as per usual.
Albury radio station 2AY 1494 will be providing an unprecedented coverage of the Hume FL grand final day, with its popular sports program The Critic being broadcast live from 10.00am to midday.
This will be followed by a live broadcast of the 2010 grand final led by the commentary team of Ron Montgomery, Robbie Mackinlay and Simon Corr live from 1.00 right through to 6.00.
The 2AY team will also be replicating the same coverage at this Saturdays Tallangatta FL grand final at Sandy Creek when Beechworth and Yackandandah go into battle.
2AY have taken the opportunity to cover local grand finals, due to the AFL finals being played at night on both weekends of their finals series,
leaving a void in its Saturday afternoon football coverage.
