Coleambally racked up a rare away win, when they successfully overcame Henty in a tight finish. The Irrigators don’t win many away from home and their 14 point win was hard fought.
The visitors set up their win with a brilliant first quarter of football that set the Swampies back, which they were unable to bridge despite outscoring the Blues in the last three quarters.
The long trip was made even better for the Blues when their seconds recorded its first ever win in the Hume league, making the bus trip home one to remember.
Grant Gardiner with five goals and James Male four, gave the game Swampies every chance, while Al Edis in defence was superb. Todd Spencer and young Jack Macallum were others to shine.
Coleambally should register another win next when they host the BB saints while Henty will have a bye and set themselves to pinch a win or two in the final five rounds to follow.
DEPLETED HOLBROOK BEAT MAGPIES
Holbrook was able to keep top place on the Hume ladder by defeating a very committed Murray Magpies by 64 points in a low standard affair at Urana Road, Lavington.
Decimated by injury Holbrook went into the match missing ten senior players and in retrospect would go away happy to get the points that the Magpies made hem work hard for.
Tom Hickey, Ryan Buckle and Noel Coutts dominated up forward for Holbrook, with Buckle and Coutts both flawing their game with poor conversion in front of goal.
Will Nichols, Tom Stead and Hayden Lanyon provided plenty of drive across the midfield, while the burly Aaron West dominated the ruck with a best on ground effort.
Shane Franz played a blinder for the Magpies, while Corey Bahr, Jeremy Litchfield and Craig McNamara ran the ball well out of defence in the Magpies best effort for some time.
