Round seven saw two thrilling finishes in HDCA cricket, with Culcairn and The Rock Yerong Creek (TRYC) both launching impressive comebacks to derail Holbrook and Osborne respectively.
The other game saw Henty complete an outright win over Holbrook Colts. The Swampies are runaway leaders on top of the ladder, with the minor premiership well and truly wrapped up.
The final four looks set, with the only settlement to be completed, being the finishing order between TRYC and Holbrook, their clash next round should go a long way to sorting out who finishes third.
Osborne who were in a strong position at stumps on day one, failed to handle the pace bowling of Chris Jackson and Paul Hallam, with the pair claiming nine of the ten wickets.
TRYC day one score of 126 looked thin, however Hallam and Jackson sparked the Two Blues into a very important victory and in doing so ended Osborne’s slim finals chances. Osborne came up six runs short. Osborne captain Darren Howard (41) and Nick Gleeson (24) were the only ones to stem the tide. In total Hallam and Jackson bowled forty two overs for a combined total of 9/54.
Holbrook wasted a great opportunity to topple Culcairn in a low scoring and tense encounter at Holbrook, with the final result coming in the last over of the day.
An adventurous swipe to fine leg by Culcairn tail ender Jarrod Frohling with just two balls remaining was enough to get the Lions home with the last wicket at the crease. Holbrook batting first rallied late to score a competitive total of 134, with Robbie Mackinlay leading the way with an unbeaten (57). Frohling was one of four bowlers to take two wickets.
Some terrific bowling from Jason Weaven and some sharp fielding put Culcairn under enormous pressure and at 7/71, the Lions looked gone for all money. David Badger like he has done so many times in the past masterminded a rescue mission with (41) and with good support from youngsters Nic Finlayson (17) and Frohling (15no) got the Lions home.
Weaven finished with 5/53 off a marathon twenty overs. Holbrook will be looking to bounce back this week at Yerong Creek in an attempt to win back third spot and a home final.
A wonderful all round performance by Shannon Terlich, highlighted day two of the Swampies huge win over an improved Holbrook Colts at Henty.
Terlich, resuming on seventy five, went on to record his maiden century finishing on 105 not out, before taking the ball and claiming six second innings wickets as the Colts were bowled out for 142.
Aaron Pitson (43) and James D Ross (25) gave the Colts some hope of surviving with a second wicket stand of sixty three, before Terlich cut a swathe in to the Colts middle order.
