 Steve Taylor century saves Holbrook

Steve Taylor century saves Holbrook

13 Feb, 2008 12:52 PM
A superb batting display by Steven Taylor that saw him record his maiden first grade century has saved Holbrook from total collapse against TRYC at Holbrook.

Taylor, 17 displayed excellent concentration and shot selection to finish unbeaten at stumps on 103 out of the Holbrook total of 174 against the ladder leaders.

His innings included just six boundaries and three sixes on a very slow outfield, which makes the Holbrook total quite a deal larger than it appears, with only one other batsman reaching the boundary.

The only other batsman to make double figures was stand in skipper Robbie Mackinlay (22). With Taylor they put on eighty one runs for the fifth wicket after Holbrook collapsed to 4/37.

The visitors attack was consistent and straight all day giving little away on the good batting wicket. Paul Hallam 3/23 and Adam Hopkins 3/46 caused the early damage.

Off spinner Steven Jolliffe impressed with a terrific spell of bowling taking 2/35 off sixteen overs. His battle with Taylor was a highlight of the day as the two Riverina representatives shone.
