Henty’s unbeaten season almost stumbled in the final round when they just fell over the line against home ground specials Holbrook in a thrilling finale to the home and away season.
In a low scoring match on a very lush and slow outfield at Holbrook, the Swampies completed the winning runs in the final over with Jack McCallum hoisting a boundary over mid on.
It was the second consecutive narrow home loss for Holbrook in recent matches against the two top teams and despite the loss it will give them confidence going into this weeks finals.
Holbrook batting first with a experimental batting order started terribly losing it’s first four wickets for just six runs with Chris Manns and Al Edis on fire, coupled with some brilliant fielding.
Some solid batting from the middle order led by Seumas McKillop (29), Jason Weaven (35) and Hayden Wishart (20) along with Jimmy Grills and Robbie Mackinlay saw a handy score of 8/116 posted.
Shannon Terlich 1/14 off eight and Manns 2/9 off eight were superb, while the run outs executed by John Wakefield and Jimmy Ellis were sensational.
Henty courtesy of Edis (22) and Mark White (20) looked to have set up an easy win, however some excellent bowling and sharp fielding saw Holbrook miraculously get themselves back in the game
Simon Montague was introduced into the attack with three overs remaining and Henty coasting at 5/111. The next four balls saw Montague some how claim three wickets and Henty in trouble at 8/111.
A boundary in the penultimate over left Henty requiring two runs for victory starting the final over. McCallum was up to the task as he completed a fine boundary to finish a great game.
Culcairn regained some good form by thrashing TRYC at home with the dynamic opening pair of Jamie Cooper and Steven Brand once again to the fore adding ninety five in quick time.
Culcairn ended with 5/205 off its forty overs with Brand (84) and Cooper (61) starring. Veteran left armer Tony Yates was the pick of the TYRC bowlers taking two wickets.
TRYC never challenged in its run chase with Brad Ravenna destroying the top order and finishing with five wickets as they were bundled out for just 73.
Osborne handed Holbrook Colts bottom place on the ladder when they completed a convincing victory at home, with openers Darren Howard (66) and Jeremy Bahr (72) leading the way.
Osborne chalked up its highest score for some time finishing with 291. Sam Joyce completed a promising senior debut season by claiming three wickets, while Will Heriot and Kevin Drum added good support.
