Culcairn retained second place on the ladder by easily beating the Holbrook Colts who just like their other team was short on a few key players. The Colts started reasonably well with James “Higgins” Ross compiling an elegant (27) and with Simon Montague (25) took Holbrook to 1/48, before the wickets tumbled.
Steve Brand with 4/16 and Brad Ravenna 3/28 did the damage. Michael Nauschutz with (27) was good in the lower order for Colts. Brand kept up his good form with the bat making (79), while Jamie Lennon (46) and Jake Hodges (31) contributed well. Once again Ben Jones was the best of the Colts bowlers and economical to boot.
A depleted Holbrook side caused a huge upset when they defeated last years premiers TRYC at Holbrook with recruit Jason Weaven leading the way with a superb innings of 83 not out.
Holbrook led by Weaven and youngster Hayden Wishart (59) combined for a century second wicket stand of 118 to successfully chase down TRYC score of 5/152 off its 40 overs. TRYC score was set up by sound innings from Jeremy Bunn (48), Todd Hannam (44) and Steve Jolliffe (37) and on a slow outfield was very competitive.
Wishart started the day well taking three wickets for Holbrook, while Stewie Williams kept his early form going with two more wickets.
The win has given Holbrook a huge boost in its finals campaign and with six players still to return could well make a serious charge to the premiership battle.
Henty maintained its unbeaten run with a comprehensive thrashing of Osborne.
Grant Forest maintained his great run of scores with his (81) coming off consecutive centuries.
Ben Klemke (69no) and Mark White (61) both added half centuries as Henty piled on the runs in the second half of the innings.
Osborne was routed for just 89 with Henty leg spinner Shannon Terlich collecting his second five wicket haul this season taking 5/11 off 7.2 overs. Joe Parker claimed 3/11.
STEVE TAYLOR MAKES
ANOTHER TON
Former Holbrook cricketer and 2009 Billabong High School captain Steven Taylor scored his second century this season for Cricket Albury Wodonga in the SCG Cup. Playing against Wagga at Alexander Park in Albury, Taylor (104) tore the Wagga attack apart to follow up his century against Griffith in the previous round.
Surprisingly Taylor has been left out of the ACT under 19 team for the 2009 Australian National Championships despite his great form with the willow.
Taylor is currently playing for the Lavington cricket club and will play a big part in Cricket Albury Wodonga attempting to qualify for the SCG Cup final played in January at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
