Terlich puts Lions
in a spin
In form Henty leg spinner Shannon Terlich claimed another five wicket haul, to send
his team into the Holbrook DCA grand final in a fortnight with a win over Culcairn at Henty.
Terlich who has had an outstanding season with both bat and ball, also made a very handy (37no) to guide his team home in a tricky run chase.
In a match reduced to fifty overs per side, due to wet conditions on Saturday, the Lions will rue dropped chances that may have got them closer.
Batting first Culcairn led by Brad Ravenna (40), Steven Brand (35) and Jake Hodges (20) made a good start and at 3/98 were looking at a total close to two hundred.
Terlich however claimed the vital wickets of Ravenna and Brand to send the Lions into a dramatic batting collapse that saw them lose its last six wickets for just nine runs and all out for 138.
Henty skipper provided excellent support to Terlich, maintaining pressure from the other end claiming 2/50.
Jack McCallum continued his good
development grabbing two vital top order wickets.
Henty’s run chase was built around opener Mark White who batted throughout the innings making an unbeaten (36), the Swampies lost two early wickets of Grant Forest and Ben Klemke.
Grant Gardiner (26) and Edis (14) assisted in the middle order. When the fourth wicket fell at ninety four the Lions were a outside chance, until Terlich put his final stamp on the game in a stand with White.
Jamie Cooper was the best Lions bowler and his brilliant catch of Grant Forest was as good as you would see anywhere.
Culcairn now host old rivals Holbrook in this weeks preliminary final.
HOLBROOK GET HOME IN THRILLER
Holbrook have advanced into this weekends preliminary final with a nail biting win over TRYC at The Rock, winning by two wickets with seventeen balls to spare.
Both sides have engaged in some epic finals matches in the last decade and this decider was as good as any previous, with Holbrook successfully chasing down TRYC score of 9/157 off sixty overs.
The match was interrupted by rain on day one and with an early start organized for Sunday the match was reduced to sixty overs per side. TRYC batted first and at stumps on day one were 2/75 off twenty five.
A much improved bowling and fielding performance by the Brookers stemmed the run flow despite good efforts from Todd Hannam (40), Keith Jolliffe (27), Jeremy Bunn (26) and Greg Jolliffe (21).
Mitch Williams bowled superbly taking 1/32 off seventeen overs, while Jason Weaven 2/54 and Robbie Mackinlay 4/12, along with Aaron Pitson 1/19 restricted the batting.
Holbrook led by a fifty two run opening stand between Nigel McMahon (29) and Simon Montague (44) looked in control before a steady flow of wickets ensured another thriller was in store.
Hannam, Paul Hallam and the craft of veteran left armer Tony Yates saw the home team dry up runs and gain crucial wickets with Holbrook staggering to 6/116, with 13 overs left.
Torquilla McKillop (17) made a handy contribution at a good rate, before Mackinlay (21no) leveled the scores with a six, leaving youngster Josh Jones to hit the winning runs with a crunching drive.
Yates was superb taking 3/32 off fifteen overs, while Hallam 3/52 and Hannam 2/54 0ff twenty overs tried everything. Weaven (20) and Hayden Wishart (13) were solid in the middle order for Holbrook.
