BRADMAN CUP AWAITS WISHART
Talented young Holbrook all rounder Hayden Wishart has been chosen in the Riverina under 16 side to contest the prestigious Bradman Cup carnival in Wollongong in January 2010.
The carnival is played over four days and pits the eight country cricket zones against each other to decide the 2009/10 Bradman Cup champion side, who in then turn play the city Green Shield winners.
Wishart, a right handed batsmen and off spin bowler impressed during the three Riverina trial matches with Murray Cricket Council, with his match winning performance on the final day clinching his spot.
Wishart was man of the match against Murrumbidgee making 38no with the bat after his side had crawled through the first forty overs and then took 4/4 with the ball to rout Murrumbidgee for just 58.
Murray finished runner up to Northern Riverina in the carnival. Other local players also performed well at the carnival with the team containing four players each from both Holbrook and Tumbarumba associations.
Tooma opening bowler Robert Hartnet was also chosen along with Ben Fulford from North Albury. Jim Grills, William Heriot and Andrew Mackinlay all played for Murray.
HENTY TO HOST ONE DAY FINAL
An undermanned Henty side has firmed as both one day cricket and two day premiership favorites following a surprise win over Culcairn last Saturday at Henty.
The Swampies went into the match minus Riverina representatives Grant Forest and Al Edis who were playing in the NSW Country championships in Gosford.
Riverina had a disappointing carnival losing all three games with Edis having his best day on the final day making 28 with the bat. Forest had a quite carnival with the bat.
Henty looked to be in trouble when batting first they compiled the modest total of 7/131 on a slow outfield. However their bowlers got the job done bowling the Lions out for just 114.
The win has secured their position on top of both the one day ladder and normal competition ladder and also won the right now to host the one day final on January 9 also against the Lions.
Osborne has recorded its first win for the season defeating a much depleted Holbrook side by nine wickets and kept alive its finals hopes as well.
Holbrook for the second week running wasted a good start with the bat losing middle order wickets in a hurry and should have made more than its 9/142 after being 1/84.
In reply Jeremy Bahr (90no) and Darren Howard (58) put on 131 for the opening stand to guide the Cats home against the youthful Holbrook bowling attack.
TRYC despite missing skipper Jeremy Bunn on Riverina duties, proved to powerful for Holbrook Colts winning by 88 runs at Holbrook.
Good scores by Todd Hannam (54), Col Hagen (40) and Keith Jolliffe (40no) set up the visitors imposing total of 7/197. Ben Jones, Kevin Drum and Simon Montague all took two wickets for Colts.
Colts in reply never got going with Mick Nauschutz top scoring with an unbeaten (37). Simon Fairall and Brother Matt were the only other two players to get double figures.
The final round of matches prior to harvest break commences this week with matches all now reverting back to two day matches.
