HUME SAYS NO TO TRYC BID

Whilst the football season is still over four months away the silly season has been in full swing with the Hume League in the news with TRYC attempting to gain entry.

The TRYC bid however hit a major hurdle when the Hume league club delegates voted overwhelmingly in favor of keeping the current 14 teams that exist with Rennie leaving for the Picola league.

Rennie got their wish of playing closer to home with the Picola league splitting into 2 divisions, paving the way for Rennie to return after a one year stint in the Hume.

TRYC and Collingullie Ashmont are looking to leave the Farrer league and received a boost when an appeal board granted them the right to leave after fellow clubs voted to keep them.

Collingullie are looking to be admitted into the Riverina Football league. Both clubs will now be forced to remain in the Farrer league for the 2009 season and pin their hopes on major changes the following year.

Both clubs (TRYC and Collingullie) had their appeals to join the Hume league and Riverina league respectively denied by a especially AFL (NSW/ACT) appointed tribunal last Tuesday in Wagga.

The message is clear however that their will be change in the wind come 2010.

According to a press release sent out last week following the tribunal it stated “some tough and in some cases unpopular” decisions will be made.

The current set up of the Riverina and Farrer leagues is - Riverina ten sides and Farrer six sides. Suggestions of dropping two sides back to Farrer to give each league eight sides have been muted.

The Hume league is the envy of all clubs throughout Southern NSW with its structure that includes four games of football and up to six games of netball in the one day.

RAIN GETS THE POINTS IN CRICKET

Rain played havoc with the final round of HDCA senior cricket with all Division two games abandoned. Div One pulled the right reign last week by playing one day matches in both games.

Strangely enough all the junior cricket got through on Saturday morning, before the overdue rain arrived. The junior grades will complete their games this Saturday morning before breaking for the school holidays.

Another casualty to the weather was the scheduled final selection trial for the Murray under 14 team. The match between Cricket Albury Wodonga and Murray Country will now be played next Sunday at Xavier HS.

The team chosen will then play a match the following day against the North East Knights under 14 team at Xavier. The NAB Riverina Und 14 carnival will be played over three days from January 2 - 4 at Hay.

The local HDCA competition resumes on Jan 10 when the one day final between Culcairn and TRYC will be played at Culcairn. The two day comp begins the following week with 3 rounds left in the season.

PAIGE MATHEWSON STARS FOR ACT

Local Holbrook junior Paige Mathewson performed very well for the ACT in the Girls National under 15 Championships in Brisbane last week.

The promising right hand bat and left arm swing bowler, twice top scored for the ACT and took a three wickets and two wickets haul in a outstanding performance.

The highlight for Paige was top scoring against the powerful NSW side; the Blues went through the carnival undefeated and included Riverina girls Brigit Webster and Alex Gittings.

Her score of (22) was replicated in the playoff for 3rd against Victoria, while she also took 3/20 against South Australia to complete a brilliant performance.

Henty Bowling Club green was under water after the deluge of rain at the weekend however Santa was spotted checking out the rink. Someone whispered that he was in fact seeing if the bowlers had been naughty or nice this year.
