BRAND AND COOPER 337 OPENING STAND

Culcairn pair Steven Brand (157) and Jamie Cooper (165) combined last Saturday to record an amazing opening partnership of 337 against Osborne at Culcairn. The partnership is believed to be a Holbrook DCA record with many of the association’s stalwarts never witnessing or remembering such a score line in the past fifty plus seasons.

Brand who has been in scintillating form all season and Cooper tore the Osborne attack apart in a display rarely seen or heard of in any form of cricket.

The Lions total after its maximum fifty over’s finished at 2/354; with Sam Terlich bowling a marathon nineteen over’s and finished with 1/130.

In reply Osborne batted in solid fashion with its openers Darren Howard (72) and Jeremy Bahr (61) putting on their own century stand as the cats finished at 8/174.

Brand has now amassed an amazing 582 runs to the harvest break and could be an outside chance to reach the almost unthought-of of total of one thousand runs in a season.

OUTRIGHT FOR HOLBROOK IN DERBY

Holbrook recorded a badly needed outright win over fellow town side Holbrook Colts in the local derby. Colts fought tenaciously before just failing to bat out time and deny the senior side.

Resuming at 2/113 after dismissing Colts for 71 on day one, Holbrook batted with purpose to declare after 15 over’s batting at 7/203 with Seumas McKillop just missing his century making (91).

Ben Jones took three wickets and Simon Montague two, while Will Heriot Jnr impressed taking the wicket of Robbie Mackinlay (34). Jason Weaven made 27 no to round off the Brookers score.

With a deficit of 132 and plenty of over’s to bat the Colts made a very good start with Montague (47) leading the charge. At 1/66 they looked likely to avoid the innings defeat.

However a good spell from Mitch Williams 3 wickets and Hayden Wishart 4/41, plus some good fielding saw the Colts bowled out for 123 with eight over’s left.

Mick Nauschutz (16), Matt Fairall (13) and Anthony Nichols (11) were the only others to make double figures.

FOREST AND SCHULLER SINK BLUES

Henty run machine Grant Forest kept up his personal run scoring battle with Culcairn Steve Brand by hammering (82) and along with Greg Schuller (87) set up a win over TRYC at Yerong Creek.

The pair put together a 129 run stand for the fifth wicket after the Swampies were a bit shaky at 4/98. It was Forest fifth score this year above eighty.

Henty who had won the toss and batted on day one finished with 9/285 with other handy scores coming from John Wakefield (25), Mark White (19) and Dylan Hore Smith (19no).

Steve Jolliffe with 4/80 and Todd Hannam 2/83 bowled forty two overs between them. TRYC after a promising start from its top three collapsed badly from 1/92 to be all out for 136.

Hannam (39), Jeremy Bunn (39) and Steve Jolliffe (33no) set up a realistic run chase, but found no support in the middle order and have now dropped to 4th place on the ladder.

Al Edis made up for a failure with the bat to claim 5/26 off thirteen overs, while Shannon Terlich chipped in with two wickets. Henty remain well clear on top of the ladder.
