BROCKELSBY WIN MURRAY TITLE

Brockelsby DCA claimed the Tony Scammell Shield by winning all three of its matches in the Murray Cricket Council inaugural Country under 14 competition.

The final round was completed at the two Ten Mile Creek ovals in Holbrook before a large crowd of spectators played in sunny weather.

It was a great result for Brockelsby as it was their first venture into the Murray competition. The matches certainly unveiled some excellent talent with four players selected in the Murray Country team to play CAW.

Brockelsby were made to work hard against a much improved Tumbarumba side, with Tumba having Brock in early trouble at 5/46 with both openers out for nought.

The middle and lower order recovered in good fashion with Jordan Trethowan (26), Jeremy Bourchier (31), Jed Brain (29) and Tom Barnes (22) leading the charge in a final score of 147.

Matt Galvin, Brodie Hawkins, Jeremy Ash and Toby Bennetts all claimed two wickets. Tumbarumba despite a good start fell well short to be bowled out for 91.

The other match saw the Holbrook West side to strong for Holbrook East winning by sixty eight runs. Holbrook East batted first and was dismissed for 139.

Josh Jones (24) and Dylan Fairall (23) top scored for east with both being involved in a half century stand. Dan McCarthy (17), Luke Carmen (12) and Zac Cooper (11) were others to reach double figures.

Nick Perryman, Buddy Hore and Jayden Klemke all claimed two wickets. Klemke followed up with a terrific innings when West batted, making (67 ret) in a great opening stand with Jack Doig (39).

Fairall and McCarthy were the pick of the bowlers for East, with both bowling excellent opening spells to Doig and Klemke.

Murray Country team to play Cricket Albury Wodonga on December 14 is - (alphabetical order) Dylan Fairall, Jordan Harrington, Dylan Hore, Will Heriot, Darcy Ianson, Josh Jones, Jayden Klemke, Andrew Mackinlay, Daniel McCarthy, Bryce Swift, Daniel Terlich, Jordan Trethowan. Coach Rob Mathewson.

Following this match the Murray Cricket Council under 14 team to play in the NAB Cup Riverina carnival will be chosen. The carnival will be held in hay from Jan 2 to 4.

OSBORNE LOOKING AT FINALS ACTION

Osborne are well on track to play in its first ever Holbrook and DCA finals series, following its crushing win over Holbrook at Osborne last Saturday.

The Brookers remain on the bottom of the ladder without a win so far this season and now with the task of trying to win all its remaining matches to play finals.

Batting first the undermanned and youthful Holbrook side made good progress early on and at 1/49 were in a good position, until a major collapse saw the last nine wickets fall for just twenty seven runs.

Skipper Harry Mackillop top scored with (24), with Simon Montague (13) the only other player to reach double figures. Holbrook side included five players eligible for under 15’s.

Mick Gleeson came home with the superb figures of 5/7 off 6.2 over’s. Jeremy Bahr and Sam Terlich bowled tight early. Andrew Madden and Brad Josephs claimed two wickets each.

Osborne was never in trouble chasing and finished on 3/138 to win by sixty runs. All the Osborne bats performed well with Madden (30), Marty Bahr (30no) and Jeremy Bahr (29).

The other game saw a thrilling finish at Henty, with TRYC winning with just three balls to spare. The combine got home with four wickets remaining at 6/158.

Henty had earlier been bowled out in the last over for 156. Good work by Matt Angel, Steve Jolliffe and Andrew Rainbird spearheaded the thrilling run chase.

The final round prior to harvest/Christmas break will be played this Saturday with Holbrook at home to Henty and Culcairn hosting Osborne, both matches will be 50 overs games.
