Greater Hume Shire Council (GHSC) will ask residents across the shire to participate in planning a strategy for the next 20 years.
In October 2009, the State Government passed legislation that requires all NSW councils to undertake extensive consultation of their communities and develop long term strategic plans and in November GHSC appointed consultants to undertake the community plan on behalf of the Council.
At its June meeting Greater Hume Shire Council adopted an engagement strategy to seek residents’ views in the preparation of its Community Strategic Plan to be known as Greater Hume 2030.
“Greater Hume’s plan must reflect the needs, desires, and expectations of its communities, with Council ensuring its budget, programs and actions respond to the community plan,” Acting General Manager David Smith said.
The development of ‘Greater Hume 2030’ will start with a series of community consultation workshops scheduled at Burrumbuttock, Culcairn, Henty, Holbrook, and Jindera during August 2010. In addition to community workshops, a number of focus groups will be held with key sectors of the community such as business, farming, and sporting clubs.
Dates for all community workshops and focus group
sessions will be announced shortly.
From the creative and innovative contributions made by the Greater Hume community, a draft strategic plan will be developed.
