Newspapers to merge

08 Jan, 2003 12:40 PM
In an exciting move for 2003, the Eastern Riverina Observer will merge with the Holbrook Chronicle.

To be known as the Eastern Riverina Chronicle, this new paper will encompass all the areas covered by its two predecessors.

The Shires of Culcairn, Holbrook, Hume, Lockhart and Urana will be covered by the Eastern Riverina Chronicle, providing one comprehensive edition of all the news, sporting and community events which occur between the cities of Wagga and Albury.

The Eastern Riverina Chronicle will be of benefit to both readers and advertisers alike, Eastern Riverina Chronicle manager Chris Power said yesterday.

"Our paper will provide plenty of news and pictorial coverage from around the region, letting our readers know exactly what is going on in their area," Mr Power said.

"For advertisers, this paper will provide a greater circulation and coverage area than advertising in either the Eastern Riverina Observer or Holbrook Chronicle, without having to pay for two advertisements.

"Our classifieds will also be combined to ensure greater coverage for private and business advertisers, he said."

The Eastern Riverina Chronicle has the backing of a team of professionals with experience in the newspaper industry.

Manager Chris Power, journalist Jenny Kane, advertising representative Sonya Power and typesetter Sandy Newton have many years combined experience in newspapers and, because they live in your area, they know first hand what you would like to see in your community newspaper.

Behind your local team is the production staff at Cootamundra, where your paper is compiled, and at Dubbo, where the paper is printed.

Cootamundra group manager Peita Kelly said she was looking forward to this merger.

"This is a new chapter in the history of these two publications," Mrs Kelly said.

"I'm pleased that we are undertaking this merger, as I believe the new product will be a better, more concise community paper.

"The production and accounts staff in Cootamundra are looking forward to producing the Eastern Riverina Chronicle."

The landmark first edition of the Eastern Riverina Chronicle will be published on Wednesday, January 22.

Deadlines for advertising copy and contributions remain unchanged for this first edition.
